Are you jealous of people who love their job?

I read an article from the current issue of Hinsdale Living magazine on Career Change and this question is one of a few considered as likely signs of disengagement. I’m always curious to learn about what other people do, and 9 times out of 10 I can sense passion or the lack of it in just a few words. This article went on to talk about inertia as a force holding us back from making a change and how to overcome it.

While holding on to the security we get from our jobs (like that’s not everything), there are recommended steps one can take towards a career change. According to the CEO of Jody Michael Associates, “79 % of working Americans will never spend one day in their right career fit – even after making several changes”. While I am lucky to be doing the job of my life, I admire those who are able to hold on to jobs they don’t love.

Changing your inner dialogue is one step. Another quote from Jody, “Throughout the day, your inner dialogue is constantly running, like a radio station with a player that loops in the background”. Control the sources feeding your inner dialog and give time to only positive thoughts. It may also help to acknowledge your fears, take one small step at a time and adopt accountability strategies. Let others be jealous of you.
