In a hurry, patiently

I listened to Jesse Itzler respond to a question on the one advise he’d give his kids, “Experience Life” he said. Using the analogy of a transport bus, our lives run on a bus schedule – with no stops. Whether you take a day off or spend time upset about not getting that promotion, life goes on. Because memories from the last decade feels like yesterday, the next one will likely be here tomorrow. What other way than to hurry?

Though most aspects of life is about waiting, we can create valuable experiences while we wait. The recruiter may be taking forever to reach out, there is another 18months left to finish that professional program or the business idea isn’t coming together as planned. Create your own opportunities, focus on the things within your control and plan the best you can – remember the bus has no stops.

“Pressure is pleasure” according to Jesse, and I kind of agree. In my opinion, waiting is uncomfortable so I keep myself occupied. Like a company, we should have guiding principles. Set goals, objectives or mission statements. Exert some pressure on yourself to reach them, then raise the bar a little more. Guard your time, seek opportunities and add value while you wait. Be in a hurry, be patient.
